A settler of British descent, I am grateful to live, work, love and play on the unceded lands of the Songhees and Esquimalt nations.
Raised and schooled in both northern and southern Alberta, I was delighted to move to southern Vancouver Island in the mid-1990s. I am a third generation public servant and ally of those who don't always have voices. You are safe to be you around me.
Travels throughout Canada and various places in the world, I have been a maker of things as far as I can remember. I am both inspired and fascinated by colour, texture and the sea. The ocean and my human and furry family fed my soul.
I have been taking photographs since I was given my first camera almost thirty years ago. I feel blessed by the voice it gives me as a photographer. Honoured to have exhibited both as a solo artist and in joint shows, selections of my work hangs in private collections across Canada, the United States and beyond. I currently shoot with a Sony A7 and my iPhone. I switched to digital photography with a Sony a6000 upon the demise of my much loved and missed Minolta.
It is relationships we as humans are so often obsessed with. In my work, I aim to capture the relationships of not only people and nature, but of movement, light, environment and colour to one another.
By looking closer at our surroundings we can gain a new understanding and wonder of the world around us, the huge impacts we have on it and our place in it.
I was raised in a household that encouraged thinking, individuality and creativity. As a result I grew up puttering ~ experimenting with drawing, painting, beading and sewing for as long as I can remember. I grew up on the stage, acting, dancing, mc'ing, and working backstage. My latest passions include ink and water drawing and an expansion of sewing skills into bags. I have recently discovered the gorgeousness of sewing with cork and am obsessed.

All my stain glass style fabric come from the amazing fingers of the makers at Geek Garden Fabric. Many pop culture fabric comes from a variety of other designers from around the world and available from Spoonflower fabrics which I will likely continue to use until I can source a Canadian fabric maker. I use a lot of Camelot fabrics (A Canadian company) with blender fabrics from both independent quilt shops and Fabricland (also Canadian). I source my cork from MM Cork Supply, a BC company who imports Portuguese cork.
Simply because it's sustainable, water resistant and sews like butter.
Cork is extracted only from early May to late August, when the cork can be separated from the tree without causing permanent damage. When the tree reaches 25-30 years of age and about 24in (60 cm) in circumference, the cork can be removed for the first time. Cork comes from the bark of the Cork Oak Tree. The extraction of the bark is a process that doesn't harm the tree and it is renewable. Once a tree is 25-30 years old and about 24 in in circumference, the cork can be harvested for the first time. Every nine years there is new bark to be removed. So cork is a material that comes directly from nature and there is very little processing involved. So the ecological footprint from its extraction until the final product is incredibly low compared to the industry average of plastic production. Therefore when you hold a cork object in your hand you notice that you are holding a bit of nature and not some synthetic unhealthy material from https://corkwholesale.com/pages/about-cork)
They are fun and a homage to my role playing game kiddos. That's it. And as my 22 yr old says, you can never have enough dice. I make 2 styles, the traditional stand up as well as shorter coin bag style based off a jewellery bag that can open up and be used. as a dice tray with side pockets to hold miniatures or fine jewels.
I try to do a few markets each year and this year ventured into vending at my first pop con, Victoria's Fancon. Things will go up for online sales as I have time over the next few months but until then, happy to meet up and show my wares in between events!
